The Academic Idea

Sound Education — Intellectual, Moral and Physical

The course of studies at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School is designed to prepare pupils for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate of the Meghalaya Board of School Education. But a syllabus completed is not, by itself, an education received.

Our teachers work on the whole child: the student who can solve the problem, and also the student who can be trusted, who turns up on time, and who helps the classmate sitting beside them. That is the standard we measure ourselves against.

  • English medium instruction across all classes
  • 48 teachers across 35+ classrooms
  • Continuous assessment through Unit Tests and terminal examinations
  • Moral Science and Catechism as part of formation

Assessment

How Students Are Examined

Besides the two Unit Tests there are two examinations in a year — the Half-Yearly and the Annual Examination.

Unit Test I

First Unit Test

An early check on understanding, counted at the time of promotion.

Half-Yearly

Half-Yearly Exam

A full mid-session examination across all subjects, also counted toward promotion.

Unit Test II

Second Unit Test

A second checkpoint before the final stretch of the academic year.

Annual

Annual Examination

The decisive examination at the close of the session, determining promotion.

Important to Know

Rules That Affect Results

75%

Minimum Attendance

A student who has less than 75 per cent attendance cannot be promoted.

Absence From Exams

Absence from an examination or Unit Test without sufficient reason is a serious breach of discipline, and the offender is considered to have failed.

Unfair Means

Anyone using unfair means in an examination will be debarred from further examinations.

Repeated Failure

Any pupil failing two years in succession in the same class must discontinue studies in this school and should apply for T.C. by rule.

Beyond the Textbook

The Library and Reading Life

Our library supports classroom study and independent reading alike. Books may be borrowed for one week at a time and renewed if needed, with one book issued per student — a small rule that keeps the shelves moving and everyone reading.

  • Borrowing period of one week, renewable
  • One book at a time, not to be passed on to others
  • Textbooks taken from the library: ₹50 per book for the whole year
  • Lost or damaged books must be made good by the student
